How do MMA weight classes work?
An organizer offers named divisions with published limits. Enter the division offered for your event and check its unit, official weigh-in procedure and any allowance in writing. A familiar division name in boxing, professional MMA or amateur MMA can mean different things.

Three common limits
The ABC's 2025 table lists bantamweight above 125 lb through 135 lb, featherweight above 135 lb through 145 lb, and lightweight above 145 lb through 155 lb. That last number is the upper limit in the table. Rounded conversions on a gym scale do not settle official eligibility.
Where two rulebooks diverge
The 2026 IMMAF adult summary lists men's heavyweight at a maximum of 97 kg, shown as 215 lb, with super heavyweight above it. The ABC's professional table extends heavyweight through 265 lb. Check the specific organizer, division and competition category before comparing two athletes by weight-class name.
What to ask when you enter
Get the exact limit, units, weigh-in time, clothing instructions, any repeat weigh-ins and the rule for a miss. Do not assume an extra pound or a catchweight will be approved. If the division would require a rapid cut, discuss another entry with your coach and seek qualified nutrition and medical guidance.
